WBC President Sides With Deontay Wilder: “He Deserves an Opportunity”

WBC President Sides With Deontay Wilder:

Former heavyweight champion Deontay Wilder has been severely ridiculed by critics and fans since his title loss against Tyson Fury in February. However, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman is not on the same tide.

Instead, Sulaiman billed Deontay Wilder as a “loyal” champion who has held the title for five years. He has also pressed his support for Wilder in deserving another try at the WBC belt. If not for the COVID-19 and other contractual turmoils, Wilder vs Fury 3 would have happened by now. Meanwhile, it’s still a possible fight in early 2021,

Although Fury has threatened to snub Wilder from the fight, Mauricio Sulaiman has different plans on his mind. But, he is equally aware of the ongoing issues between the heavyweight greats.

Speaking with Sky Sports, he said, “There is an issue that we are aware of that Tyson Fury and Deontay Wilder have some sort of mediation process going on and that’s the only thing, but we don’t have any details.”

Deontay Wilder is a tremendous element for WBC

The WBC president has hailed Wilder for his constant dominance in the professional circuit. If we take away Tyson Fury from his chapter, it is a never-ending series of knockout wins. It is no surprise that Wilder is dear to Sulaiman and several fans all over the world.

Sulaiman said, “We’re just hoping that everything gets resolved and everybody is happy and we see great fights inside the ring. Wilder is a tremendous, important element. He was five years champion of the WBC. Extremely loyal.”

He added, “The greatest knockout ratio. The percentage is unbelievable and he is a very dear fighter, a champion in the WBC and he deserves, of course, another opportunity. He gave Tyson Fury the opportunity and Tyson Fury beat him, knocked him out, and, of course, Wilder is in the mix. He deserves an opportunity and we will see how things evolve in the coming year.”

Earlier Fury has teased a return against Agit Kabayel, but it seems he has changed those plans. That said, the Wilder trilogy is still the best option for him. If things fall in place, it can happen in early 2021.
