Vermont is among the US states with the lowest rates of gun violence, but it may be the only state where police are currently investigating a snowshoe attack.
A woman was bashed in the face with a cleated aluminum snowshoe after she declined to give a cigarette to the attacker in Burlington Wednesday, according to NECN.
Stacy Scribner was sitting on Cherry Street when the suspect hit her twice in the face with the winter footwear, surveillance footage showed, according to the station.
“I want him behind bars,” Scribner reportedly said. “He broke my nose!”
The attack was random, cops told the outlet.
“We have no idea who this individual is,” Deputy Chief Matt Sullivan reportedly said. “We need the public’s assistance in identifying him to hold him accountable for this horrific and senseless act of violence.”
Scribner needed stitches and is undergoing treatment for a broken nose, the report said.
“All over a stinkin’ cigarette — and I get slammed,” she told the station.
The suspect is 25 – 35 years old, about 5’10”, with a medium build and a large “well kept” beard, cops said in a press release.
The temperature in the New England ski town has not been lower than 45 this month, according to the National Weather Service.
