The US Postal Services informed that it will be removing mailboxes across many major cities for security reasons ahead of the inaugural function of Joe Biden.
The mailboxes in around 17 states, which includes Washington DC, New Jersey and California, will be removed temporarily for security reasons, said many news released from the USPS.
According to David Partenheimer, the spokesman for USPS, it is part of the agency’s normal procedure to maintain the safety of their customers and employees during protest times or when huge crowds gather close to postal facilities, by mailboxes or on the postal routes.
About fourteen post offices located in DC would be closed as well on the inauguration day, said the USPS in its statement.
All the states and cities of the country are prepping for further civil unrest prior to Biden’s inauguration. The pro-Trump group, on 6 January, breached the United States Capitol and violated with the law enforcement, suspending the Congress’ joint session as the lawmakers were arguing about the challenges for electoral votes.
During the riot, 5 people lost their lives, including one Capitol Police official as well as a woman who had been shot by the law enforcement officials during the protest.
