Zookeeper Erik Cowie from the blockbuster Netflix show “Tiger King” was found dead in a Brooklyn apartment, a police source said Monday.
An autopsy will determine how Cowie, 53, died but the source said no foul play is suspected and that it appears he died from natural causes. Cowie had previously denied speculation he was a meth addict.
Cowie, who made several appearances on the 2020 documentary series, was found dead about 5:30 p.m. Friday in the bedroom of an apartment on E. 55th St. near Remsen Ave. in East Flatbush. It was not clear why Cowie, who is from Oklahoma, was in Brooklyn.
In January 2020, the star of “Tiger King,” Joe Exotic, was convicted of trying to hire someone to murder an animal rights activist in Florida — and of 17 wildlife charges.
Exotic, whose real name is Joseph Maldonado-Passage, was sentenced two months ago to 22 years in federal prison.
During the trial, Cowie testified that he “knew cats were getting shot” on the day in 2017 when, according to the feds, five tigers were killed by Joe Exotic.
