Right after Drew Brees announced his retirement, some bizarre news broke about another Saints quarterback.

Taysom Hill is getting a four-year, $140 million contract extension, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter. But the catch is every year of the 30-year-old gadget player’s deal is voidable.

The contract saves the Saints $7.5 million in salary-cap space for the 2021 NFL season, per ESPN. The move appears to be purely done for that purpose.

Hill’s 2021 earnings breakdown, according to ESPN, is a $9.686 million signing bonus, a $1.439 million guaranteed roster bonus and a $1.034 million guaranteed base salary. That’s a total of about $12.16 million.

Last year, the Saints signed Hill to a two-year, $21 million contract.

Hill had attempted just 13 NFL passes before this year, but he filled in for an injured Brees for four games and finished 2020 88-for-121 with 928 yards, four touchdowns and two interceptions. He also rushed for 457 yards and eight touchdowns, while adding a receiving score.
