Later this year, Taco Bell will start testing a new Beyond Meat plant-based protein at all its restaurants. The fast food chain did not say anything about what the dish would look like; however, it claimed that it will not be the standard plant-based meat you have eaten from the other restaurants as it will be making the protein with the help of Beyond Meat.
According to Liz Matthews, global chief food innovation office at Taco Bell, the new dish is definitely going to be distinct than the things you have seen at other restaurants, which will help the company take its innovation game ahead.
If you have been keeping an eye on the expansion of Impossible Foods and Beyond Meat, you will know that Taco Bells is quite late when it comes to offering a plant-based meat substitute. A few of its rivals, like McDonald’s and KFC have been offering plant-based meat since 2019 at least. However, it is still a significant announcement from Taco Bell, especially as it works on gaining the trust of vegetarians. Last summer, the chain cut 8 items from its menu, including the vegetarian favorite dishes such as Mexican Pizza to simplify the company’s operations during the pandemic. That is why the company is bringing back a few of its potato-based diseases on 11 March, before the rollout of its Beyond Meat protein.
