Seahawks draft picks 2022: Why Seattle doesn’t have a Round 1 selection in NFL Draft

The Seahawks traded three picks for one pick.

The Seahawks are in the midst of a middling and disappointing 2021 season, with an NFC West title all but a fantasy at this point. While Seahawks fans can fantasize about retooling in the 2022 NFL Draft, that should come with a bit of bated breath.

Currently, the Seahawks are without a first-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft, so any reinforcements by way of rookies are going to have to come after the first 32 picks are made, barring any kind of offseason trade to recoup that capital.

Why don’t the Seahawks have a first-round pick?

Seahawks fans looking towards mock drafts for the 2022 NFL Draft may have to hold their breath a bit: Seattle is currently without a first-round pick in 2022, which was sent to the Jets as part of the Jamal Adams trade in 2020.

The full details of that trade: The Seahawks sent two first-round picks (2021, 2022), a third-round pick (2021) and safety Bradley McDougald to the Jets in exchange for safety Jamal Adams and a 2022 fourth-round pick.

The Seahawks made the deal to shore up the back end of the defense, which was looking for impact playmakers following the 2018 departure of Earl Thomas and the 2017 retirement of Kam Chancellor.

With the famed “Legion of Boom” years over, the Seahawks traded for the disgruntled Jets safety to try and alleviate their porous secondary. While Adams isn’t known for being a pure cover safety, his abilities as a pass rusher offered an intriguing alternative for a Seahawks pass rush that needed the help.

Adams has a single interception since joining the Seahawks in 2020, coming in the 17-0 loss to the Packers earlier in 2021.

So, yes, the Seahawks technically traded three picks for just one. Them’s the breaks, as they say.
