Elon got an early start to the spring season with a win versus Davidson back on Feb. 20 but the Phoenix have since dropped back-to-back games to come in with a 1-2 overall record. The Phoenix dropped their lone conference game of the year last week against James Madison.
This game marks the highest scoring game in the NCAA Playoffs by a Spider football team. The record was previously 46 points against Morgan State. With this victory, Richmond will be looking to the winner of Western Illinois and Illinois State to determine their opponent in the next round of the FCS Playoffs.

Elon will have at least one advantage over Richmond entering Saturday’s Colonial Athletic Association matchup at Elon’s Rhodes Stadium: Elon has played three games, and Richmond has played one.
“You get better at football by playing football,” Elon coach Tony Trisciani said. “I do feel like we’re starting to come together on both sides of the ball.”
