An NYPD housing police officer in the Bronx died of COVID-19 on Sunday, the city’s largest police union wrote on Twitter.

“One year into this pandemic, COVID has claimed the life of another PBA member, PO Angel M. Santiago of @NYPDPSA7,” the Police Benevolent Association said. “The sacrifice never ends.”

Former Chief of Department Terence Monahan, now a mayoral advisor on the COVID recovery, bemoaned the officer’s death.

“As the NYPD helps lead our city out of the unprecedented realities of the pandemic, it’s not without great tragedy,” Monahan said.

“The death of @NYPDPSA7’s Officer Angel Santiago underscores the selfless and dedicated service of NY’s Finest — at any cost. My prayers are with his loved ones.”

Santiago, who was with the NYPD for 11 years, worked in New York City Housing Authority Police Service Area 7 in the Bronx, according to his unit.

The NYPD had logged 54 COVID-related deaths.
