NYC house fire leaves 9-year-old boy dead, multiple people injured


A 9-year-old boy was killed by a fire that broke out in the basement of his Queens home early Wednesday, authorities said.

Remi Miguel Gomez Hernandez was found unconscious in the three-story private home on 102nd Road near 81st Street in Ozone Park, where the blaze broke out around 2 a.m., police said.

He was pronounced dead on scene by EMS.

Ten other civilians and one firefighter suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and were taken to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, according to the FDNY.

The blaze was under control by around 2:30 a.m. Twelve FDNY units, including 60 members, responded to the scene.

The fire marshal will determine the cause of the fire.
