Observations from the Yankees’ 5-5 spring training tie with the Tigers on Tuesday.
Good
Mike Tauchman continued to swing a hot bat, crushing a leadoff home run and finishing the day 2-for-2 with a pair of walks. In his last five games, he is 5-for-14 with a pair of home runs as he competes for one of the final bench spots.
Bad
The Yankees tried to get things moving on the basepaths but ran into a handful of outs instead. In the first inning, Clint Frazier was picked off by Tigers starter Tarik Skubal. In the second, Tauchman took off for second and got in a pickle, trying to let Tyler Wade score from third, but Wade was eventually thrown out. And in the fourth, Wade was caught stealing third base.
Caught My Eye
Yankees outfielder Greg Allen was robbed of extra bases in the sixth inning on a diving catch from left fielder Victor Reyes. Allen’s next time up, he took matters into his own hands and crushed a home run over the wall in left.
Wednesday’s Schedule
The battle for the fifth starting spot continues as Deivi Garcia gets the start against the Blue Jays at 1:05 p.m. at George M. Steinbrenner Field.
