Immanuel Quickley and Montez Mathis, friends since basketball brought them together as kids in Maryland, have always been in each other’s corners. Now playing in different corners of New York City — Quickley with the Knicks and Mathis at St. John’s — their bond has never been stronger.
In difficult times, there is one person Montez Mathis seeks out. Not his parents. Not a coach. Not even a teammate.
The quiet St. John’s guard has one lifelong friend who has always been there for him and has gained his utmost trust: Immanuel Quickley of the Knicks.
“I’m to myself a lot,” Mathis told The Post recently. “I don’t speak to anybody [sometimes], not even my parents. I keep everything to myself.
“He’ll lift me up when I’m feeling down.”
