Les Miles’ alleged transgressions at LSU have officially followed him to Kansas.
The Jayhawks put Miles, their head football coach, on administrative leave on Friday amid allegations, from when he was LSU coach in 2013, of misconduct and sexual harassment. The move came following the release of reports by two law firms regarding the allegations and LSU’s investigation into them in 2013.
“Today I placed head coach Les Miles on administrative leave as we conduct a full review to determine the appropriate next step,” Kansas athletic director Jeff Long said in a statement. “We are reviewing the Husch Blackwell report released today by LSU following yesterday’s release of the Taylor Porter report. The past two days have been the first time that we have had access to either report.”
Miles, who has coached the past two seasons at Kansas after spending 2005-16 at LSU, was accused of texting female students, making them feel uncomfortable, being alone with them in his condo, and once kissing a student in his car along with suggesting she accompany him to a hotel after saying he could help her career, according to the reports. Miles, now 67, has strongly denied kissing the girl, but did admit to driving alone with her, the report said.
“Even though the allegations against him occurred at LSU, we take these matters very seriously at KU,” Long said. “Now that we have access to this information, we will take the coming days to fully review the material and to see if any additional information is available. I do not want to speculate on a timeline for our review because it is imperative we do our due diligence. We will be able to comment further once our review is complete.”
Former LSU athletic director Joe Alleva recommended to former LSU President F. King Alexander in 2013 that Miles be fired, but he was not let go until a 2-2 start to the 2016 season. Miles is just 3-18 in his two seasons leading the Jayhawks.
