Joe Biden inauguration rehearsal gets pushed back because of security threats

The inaugural rehearsal for Joe Biden that was scheduled for this Sunday has sadly been postponed due to security threats, as per two people who are familiar with the decision.

Post the riots that happened previous week, the Capitol complex has been locked down by security officials. It’s expected that the National Guard will deploy over 20,000 troops for assisting security at the complex. Homeland Security officials and top lawmakers have been warned about the increasing threats surrounding the inauguration. Moreover, the FBI has also alarmed about armed protests this weekend in all the fifty states.

According to people, the rehearsal is expected to take place on Monday.

The president-inaugural committee refused to comment anything on these changes.

An ex-advisor for Homeland Security in Obama administration, Lisa Monaco has been roped in by Biden’s team for serving as temporary security advisor during the inauguration. Monaco has halted all her activities associated with nomination while she works along with transition on matters related to security.

Given the present threats, Monaco’s temporary position as the national security advisor will be functional till the inauguration period, said a spokesperson for transition through a statement.

On Wednesday, Biden received a brief about the potential threats from FBI, national security officials and Secret Service.
