Self-proclaimed MMA Grand Slam champion Cris Cyborg might transition herself into the world of boxing soon. Her current promoter, Scott Coker, and Matchroom CEO Eddie Hearn are in talks to stage a cross-promotion fight with unified lightweight champion Katie Taylor.
Cyborg has already cemented her position as one of the greatest in the MMA community, but always had an eye for boxing glory. In her championship reigns in four different MMA promotions, Cyborg’s striking abilities have been highly acknowledged.
The 35-year-old is currently holding the featherweight title at Bellator. However, considering her possible boxing fight in the future, she is also taking lessons from several boxers. She connected with World Class Boxing to reveal some of her favorite boxers, other than discussing her MMA career.
The former UFC champion said, “I like watching Laila Ali before, I am looking for. I think she has done great things not just in the ring and follow her dad (Muhammad Ali) too. But to do what she do outside too and Claressa Shields. I look for a lot of fights ahead. I went with her some fights.”
She added, “And for the guys I (am) really fond of Pacquiao because he is not just an amazing guy in the ring but is amazing guy in his country, help the people, help each (other) and you know this is his big heart and these people I like to follow in boxing.”
Cris Cyborg into the boxing mix with Claressa Shields
While Cris Cyborg hopes to bag a fight against Katie Taylor, she has already danced inside the ring with the unbeaten Claressa Shields. The duo has sparred several times in the gym and is rumored to be good friends.
Thus, the Brazilian has her fair share of chances inside the ring. At the same time, a cross-promotion boxing fight will also propel her stardom even further. Do you see Cyborg having as much success in a boxing ring as she has had in an MMA cage?
