This is one of the most competitive divisions in boxing, and Haney will look to defend his WBC lightweight belt against likely his stiffest competition to date.

Devin Haney has a perfect 26-0 record with 15 KOs, but as his level of opposition has gone up, the vulnerabilities in his game have started to show themselves.
He was unable to finish Yuriorkis Gamboa, a fighter who has lost two of his last three fights by stoppage, and he had a very competitive fight with Jorge Linares back in May. Linares is a former title contender who is already at the tail end of his career.
The question is whether a younger, fresher JoJo Diaz might be the test that takes Haney’s “O” away on his record. Diaz is 32-1 with 15 KOs, and the only loss on his record comes against Gary Russell Jr., who has been unbeatable and has been one of the pound-for-pound best for a while.
Diaz does have one draw against Shavkatdzhon Rakhimov, who has started to make noise in the division, but Diaz also has key wins against Javier Fortuna, Tevin Farmer, Freddy Fonsesca, and Victor Terrazas.
Haney is the betting favorite, but this might be much closer than Vegas is expecting.
