A 1-year-old Texas girl is dead and her 9-year-old brother was wounded after a teen neighbor showed up to their house with a gun, according to new reports.
The girl was shot in the head at a home in the Windmill Hills neighborhood of the city of Forney around 5:15 p.m. Tuesday evening, The Dallas Morning News reported. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Her brother, whose finger was severed, was listed in stable condition at a Dallas hospital, inForney.com reported, citing the Kaufman County Sheriff’s Office.
Law enforcement officials and neighbors confirmed to the outlet that the home was a single-parent household, and the parent left their three children unattended to run an errand.
During that time, the neighbor, a 14-year-old boy, showed up unannounced with a loaded handgun and was invited in, according to the report.
It was not immediately clear how the incident unfolded from there.
The teen was taken into custody for questioning, and no charges were immediately filed.
