On Wednesday, Airbnb announced that it’s cancelling as well as blocking all Washington DC reservations for the inaugural week of US President Joe Biden, scheduled for 20 January. The vacation rental company said that this decision has been made after several federal, local and state officials asked people to not make any travel bookings to Washington DC.
Airbnb further said that it’s aware of the reports related to armed militias as well as hate groups that presently are trying to travel and disturb the President’s Inauguration.
The guests who are impacted by these measures would receive a refund for their booking and the hosts would get reimbursed at complete expense of the company, as per a media release from Airbnb.
The decision comes in just a week post Trump supporters stormed the United States Capitol, thus leading to the death of 5 people. The investigators are following the leads now in over 30 states associated with the attack.
On Monday, Airbnb said that it was following up with the reservations in the DC area and will bar guests related to the hate groups. It further said that it will warn all the guests in Washington area that it might impose legal actions against anyone who is a member of the hate group or plans any violent activity.
